Tänään päästiin testaamaan Trial Pack reppua käytännössä. Kävimme vaeltamassa Samon ja Poronpolun reiteillä Lopen kauniissa maisemissa. Hertalla oli reput päällä koko ajan, mutta vielä tällä kertaa en laittanut niihin täytettä, jotta Hertta ehtii todella tottua siihen kunnolla.
Today we got to take the Trail Pack for an actual test trek. We walked roughly 7 km around the beautiful trails of Samo and Poronpolku in Loppi, Finland. Hertta had the pack on the entire time, but I didn't put anything in it yet to give her a chance to get used to it properly.
Hertta ei edelleenkään ollut moksikskaan valjaista ja repusta ja oma pelkoni repun rintaosan leveydestä on ollut ainakin tällä hetkellä turhaa. Vielä pitää testata, miten levys vaikuttaa, sitten kun repussa on painoa, mutta ainakaan tällä hetkellä mitään hankaumia ei ole tullut.
Hertta still wasn't bothered by the harness nor pack and for now my concerns towards it MAYBE being too wide between the front legs may be unjustified. I still have to see if it rubs when there is weight in the pack.
Retkellä mukana olleet 3 labradorinnoutajaa eivät olleet kelpieni kantamasta repusta moksikskaan. Sinne ottivat reppukoiran mukaan keskelle metsää tutkimaan hajuja. Hertta inhoaa vettä, joten sitä pelkoa ei ole, että se keksisi mennä testaamaan Trail Packin vedenpitävyyttä.
The 3 labs that were with us on this trek weren't bothered by the kelpie wearing the Trail Pack but included her in all the excursions. Hertta hates water, so there's no chance that she'll decide to test the waterproofness of the Trail Pack.
Ylös ja alas, puunrunkojen yli ja ali, purojen yli ja polkujen halki: reppu pysyy todella hyvin paikoillaan! Vähän Hertta aristelee, jos se osuu ohimennen puuhun tai muuhun, mutta yleensä ottaen ei taida edes huomata, että se on päällä! Tässä ollaan noin puolessa välissä meidän pikkuvaellusta.
Up and down, under and over fallen trees, over creeks and past trails: the Trail Pack stays in place really well! The only time I see the pack bother Hertta, is when it rubs on trees while she's running past. She'll startle a bit but that's all. The picture on the left is taken about half way through our little trek.
Kaikki haluavat varmaan tietää miten Trail Pack pysyy "vauhdissa mukana". Australiankelpie on ehkä yksi vauhdikkaimmista roduista ja Hertta innostui useaan kertaan esittelemaan omaa nopeuttaan ja ketteryyttään. Yritin epätoivoisasti pysyä itse vauhdissa mukana kameran kanssa, mutta metsän hämäryys ja täysiä juokseva kelpiläinen olivat lähes mahdoton yhdistelmä! Reppu ei siis haitannut vauhtia mitenkään! Yli metrin korkeuksiset ilmalennot sekä kahden metrin pituiset ojan ylitykset sujuivat täysin moitteitta!
Everyone probably wants to know how the Trail Pack holds up, when subjected to extreme speed. The Austrailian Kelpie is one of the fastest herding breeds and Hertta wasted no time in showing off her speed and agility. I tried in vain to keep up with my camera, but due to the light (or lack there-of) in the woods it was almost an impossible combination! The pack didn't slow her down a bit! She cleared fallen trees at over a meter high and jumped streams 2 meters across without a hitch!
Sekä valjaiden, että itse repun kanssa meidän "prinsessa" suostuu istumaan, menemään makuulle sekä nousemaan suoraan ylös. Nämä eivät todellakaan ole itsestään selvyyksiä tämän neidin kanssa. Hertta on opetettu pienestä asti käskyyn "Tassut", jolloin on tarkoitus nostaa tassut osoitettuun kohtaan ja poseerata. Erittäin näppärää valokuvaajan koiralle.
Hertta has no trouble sitting, lying down nor posing with either the harness of the pack. This is no small thing for my "prinsess". As one of her first commands, I taught her "Paws", which means put your paws up where I show you and pose for the camera. A must for a photographer's dog
Samo/Poronpolku on ihanteellinen retkelypaikka! Siellä on kivasti parkkitilaa ja mahtavia näkymiä monipuoliset maisemat. Polut ovat tosi hyvässä kunnossa, mutta korkeuseroja on, joten sekä koiran että omistajan on hyvä olla kohtuullisessa peruskunnossa.
Nuotiopaikkojen ääreltä löytyi hyvin halkoja sekä siistit puuceet. Hertta pääsi ensimmäistä kertaa elämässään pitkospuille ja nautti silminnähden! Taisi pitää niitä toooooodella pitkänä agilitypuomina!
Samo/Poronpolku is a great place for a hike! Plenty of parking and scenic trails. The trails themselves are in great shape but there are quite larger height differences for both the dog and the owner need to be in decent shape.
At the campsites we found a good supply of ready-chopped wood and really clean bathroom facilities. Hertta got to go on her very first causeway hike here and she LOVED it! I think she thought it was a reeeeeal long agility dog-walk!
Suomen kesä on vasta alkamassa ja tämä oli vain tälläinen lyhyt "harjoitteluvaellus". Maltan tuskin odottaa, että päästään ihan vaikka päivän tai parin päivän mittaiselle, jolloin Hertta saa reppuihin jo jotain kannettavaakin!
Finland's summer is getting started and this was just a small practice hike. I can barely wait to go on a full-day (or maybe even a multiple day) hike and then Hertta can start pulling her own weight and carrying some gear!
